To say the banquet hall was crowded is an understatement; it was absolutely packed! I had to park a block down the street since the venue parking lot was overflowing with cars (and some jerk double parked).

The room itself was filled with a wide variety of Republicans. You had your establishment types along with grass root activists and conservative leaders. Notably sitting up front was Chris Christie’s father who was visibly very proud to see Joe make this historic announcement.

The challenge: unseating the Washington insider Bob Menendez. As of his last FEC filing on September 30, 2011, Menendez had approximately $7 million on hand. He should be releasing his FEC filings for the last quarter of 2011 very soon, and I’m sure that $7 million kitty has grown.

As a Ron Paul supporter, one concern I occasionally hear from potential voters is that they “like Ron Paul’s stances, except on foreign policy”. It’s a concern that is understandable and also one that I personally held until recently.

Ron Paul usually scores high marks with both republican and independent voters on taxes and spending. For decades, Dr. Paul has warned the American people of the dangers of the Federal Reserve system and of periodic government intervention in the economy. His strict adherence to the U.S. Constitution while in elected office is also something to be praised.

Do you think your property taxes are too high? Are there issues with your school district or garbage collection service? How about a lack of jobs and new development in your town? Is the crime rate going up and are your neighbors having a hard time selling their homes? These are just several of the many issues that local politicians are charged with dealing with.

Too often, I hear people say they don’t care about the local level elections because it doesn’t affect them. This couldn’t be further from the truth! The federal government, and specifically the President, does not have power over many of the areas of these local issues. Do you think President Obama is going to come and specifically fix your school district? Do you think he’s going to care about how many jobs are created in your small town in New Jersey? No, he cares about national issues and while national issues may directly impact your life the fact of the matter is if you really want change in your everyday life, you need to pay attention to your local candidates and make sure you come out and vote this Tuesday, November 8!
